💡 What is BMI and Why Does It Matter?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple calculation using your height and weight to estimate body fat. Developed by Adolphe Quetelet in the 1830s, it is used worldwide by the World Health Organization (WHO), CDC, and NHS as a quick screening tool for weight-related health risks.
BMI Categories (Adults): Underweight (<18.5), Normal (18.5–24.9), Overweight (25–29.9), Obese (≥30). Higher BMI is linked to increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers — but it has limitations (e.g., athletes/muscular people may show “overweight” despite low fat).
